Watch RISE Houston Testimony in Favor of ShotSpotter Cancelation

Alfredo Dominguez, Steering Committee Member, Testifying

4 weeks ago, our contacts at City Hall told us that a plan to cancel ShotSpotter would be implemented soon, but the money from the contract was going back into HPD for a new cadet class. We showed up on August 27th at Houston City Council to ensure they knew we were happy to see the contract go, but we did not want that money back into HPD. We delivered the 70 community postcards our community members created that detailed what they wanted instead of ShotSpotter. We also wanted to show support for our other demands: getting HPD out of non-safety traffic stops and freezing the HPD budget. Watch Alfredo, one of our steering committee members, testify and hand over our community postcards. We are excited that the contract should be cancelled soon and we will notify you as soon as it happens!
